Bertha Sanford Upton

Bertha Sanford Collins Upton, 90, of Bedford, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Bedford County Nursing Home. Born in Jackson, TN, on February 6, 1921, a daughter of the late Earl Sanford and Ona Dial Sanford. In addition to her parents Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Howard Upton; three brothers, Earl Sanford, David Sanford, and Arlie E. Sanford.

Bertha is survived by five children, Bobby J. Collins, Sr. and his wife, Viola of Bedford, Betty Crouch Scaggs and her husband, Jack of Vinton, Dianne Upton Post and her husband, Jim of McAllen, TX, Brenda Upton Laughon of Bedford, and Nita Upton Dempsey and her husband, Freddie of Bedford; two sisters, Juanita S. Kemp of Jackson, TN and Linda S. Allen of Wall, MS; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Bedford Church of God. Funeral Services will be conducted at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Jack Scaggs officiating. Burial will follow in Timber Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home from 2:00 until 5:00 pm.
