Bertie Lee Latimer Boothe, 89, of Bedford passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home. She was born on April 5, 1932 in Bedford VA, a daughter of the late Harold H. Latimer and Lois Lee Holland Latimer. In addition to her parents Bertie was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton E. Boothe, Sr.; siblings, Charles Latimer, George Latimer, Melvin Latimer, Julia Updike, Barbara Hein and Mary Roberts.

Bertie had a heart of gold and was always willing to help others in a time of need. She was a dedicated member of Mt Olivet Methodist Church and the Bedford Moose Lodge. She was also a great cook and some of her family’s favorites were her deviled eggs, chocolate at Christmas, birthday cakes for family and her famous coconut cake. Often, she could be found, fishing, playing cards, hiking or playing jokes on family and friends.

Bertie is survived by three sons, Clifton “Ed” Boothe, Jr. and his friend, Vickie, Roger Lee Boothe and friend, Nathaniel and John Hurst Boothe and his wife, Kim; her daughter, Gayle Boothe Pittman and friend, Jay; grandchildren, Eddie and wife, Sarilda, Shelley and friend, Karl, Natalie, Lee and Autumn; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne and Raelynn. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Also a special thanks to Oakwood Health & Rehabilitation and Centra Hospice Bedford.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The National D-Day Memorial or the Alzheimer’s Association.

A funeral service and celebration of Bertie’s life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Tharp Funeral Chapel in Bedford with Pastor Danny Holdren officiating.
