Bessie Lee Thompson Trout

Bessie Lee Thompson Trout, 92, of Lynchburg, died peacefully in her sleep with her daughter at her side, in her home as she wished on Sunday, June 2, 2019. She was the wife of the late Lester Trout, Sr.

She was born August 17, 1926, in Cumberland, Va. a daughter of the late Homer Albert Thompson and the late Mary Alice Plummer Thompson.

Bessie was a member of Indian Hill Methodist Church. She was a homemaker that adored her family. She cared for countless people over the years, even bringing in numerous family members over those years to have a place to live during hard times. She also cared lovingly for her late husband through his disabilities and illnesses in the last years of his life in their home. Bessie was the heart of her family.

She is survived by her children, Daniel Guy Trout of Amherst and his wife Patricia Trout, Gwendolyn Trout Rigney of Lynchburg; five grandchildren; Cerise Trout Smith, Lori Trout Paulsen, Justin Daniel Trout, Sean Rigney-Trout, and Bradley Daniel Rigney; three great-grandchildren; Austin Michael Paulsen, Annie Virginia Paulsen, and Jessi Lee Smith, and a host of other family members.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Lester Trout Jr. and his wife Judith, a brother, Reuben Thompson, and five sisters: Elsie Gallett, Jessie Hallenbeck, Loretta Smith, Frances Curren and Rebecca Harris.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019 at

Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Indian Hill United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jim Stevens officiating.

Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park. All are welcome to come back to Indian Hill UMC to fellowship and have refreshments, in a time to share memories and love, directly upon leaving the cemetery.
