Bettie Wright Ross

d. December 14, 2017

Bettie Wright Ross, 89, of Forest passed away at Seven Hills Hospice House on Thursday, December 14, 2017.

She was born October 12, 1928 in Winston-Salem, N.C. to the late Grady P. Wright and Lucy F. Wright.

Bettie is survived by her husband of 66 years, Henry (Jack) and three sons, Hank and wife, Kay of Pennington Gap, Va., Jeff and wife, Sandra of Goode, and Ben and Robin of Madison Heights; five grandchildren, Brian and wife, Kristen of Pinehurst, N.C., Erin and husband, Seth of Pennington Gap, Cara and husband, Daniel of Pennington Gap, Clay of Goode, and Chad and wife, Jessica of Lynchburg; and eleven Great Grandchildren.

Bettie graduated from high school in Kernersville, N.C. in 1949 and married in 1951 prior to moving to Akron, Ohio. The family relocated to Lynchburg in 1955 and became members of Beulah Baptist Church.  After moving to Goode in 1978 they later joined Bethany United Methodist Church and remained members after moving to Forest in 2004.  She was an active choir member in each church for many years.

Bettie especially enjoyed singing and sang in the Brookville High School Boosters’ Club Variety shows in the 60s and 70s and later with the Bellevue Seniors Club who devoted much of their time providing singing and entertainment programs to nursing homes in the area. She loved many things in life, such as her family and church, trips to the beach with family, bus tours with friends, shopping and eating out, musical activities, and her cats.  She was meticulous in the upkeep of her homes.  Unfortunately, she encountered many health issues in her later years.

A graveside service will be conducted Monday, December 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Virginia Memorial Park by Doctor Tom Thomas, retired pastor of Bethany United Methodist Church, which is adjacent to the park. The family will receive friends following the service at the church fellowship hall.  Those wishing to make memorials, please consider Bethany United Methodist Church, Seven Hills Hospice, or Goode Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Her family extends special thanks to the dedicated caregivers at Seven Hills Hospice House who responded to her many needs and also many thanks to the caregivers previously at Forest Runk and Pratt, Generation Solutions, Centra Hospice, and Centra Home Care.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
