Betty Ann Cox Hurt, 83, of Lynchburg, Va., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday July 26, 2016, at Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg, Va.  Betty was born November 20, 1932, in Winston-Salem, N.C. to the late Eli Leslie Cox and Ida Matlock Cox.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Fuqua Hurt, and her brother, William Cox.

Betty attended Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, N.C., Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Va., and Randolph-Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg, Va.  She was a member of Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

Betty had a wonderful gift for hospitality, and the door to the Hurt home was always open to guests. She had a passion for art and music, and enjoyed traveling when her children were grown.  Betty had a deep love for her family and her Lord.

She is survived by her son, Charles Kincaid Hurt and his wife, Dr. Terry Wright Hurt; her two daughters, Katherine Leslie Hurt Riedel and her husband, Karl William Riedel, and Alisa Anne Hurt Schula and her husband, Peter Jerome Schula; and ten grandchildren, Samuel Kincaid Hurt, James Matlock Hurt, Jackson Charles Hurt, Peter William Riedel, Joseph Kincaid Riedel, Jennifer Anne Riedel Wied, Paul Thomas Riedel, Jon Marshall Schula, Amanda Alyse Schula Rios, and Sarah Lynne Schula Huff.

A memorial service for Betty will be held in the Chapel at Westminster Canterbury (2nd floor) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016 in Lynchburg, Va. The family will receive friends following the service in the Hume Room on the 3rd floor. A private committal will be held at the Old City Cemetery Columbarium.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Westminster Canterbury for the wonderful care their mother received.
