Betty Estelle Franklin of Lynchburg, Virginia was called home to be with the Lord on February 20, 2023.
Betty was born on March 24, 1939, to the late Thomas Lee Franklin, Sr. and Mary Brown Franklin in Amherst County, Virginia. In addition to her parents Betty was preceded in death by her siblings; Edward, Thomas Jr., John, Wesley, Benjamin, Robert “Mack”, Mary Sparrow, and her grandson Thomas “Tommy” Franklin.
Betty was a homemaker who took delight in cooking. She also enjoyed listening to Reverend Fletcher Hubbard’s Gospel Station and watching soap operas. She loved going to church services such as revivals and alternating her attendance between Rivermont Baptist Church and Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She appreciated taking walks throughout the neighborhood and would even walk to church every Sunday. She loved her family immensely and relished spending time with them.
She leaves five children to cherish her memory: three sons, David (Maria) of California, Kenny Franklin, and Mark Franklin of Lynchburg, VA; her two daughters Annette (Marvin) Scott of Maryland, and Lisa (Clyde) Eldridge of Lynchburg, VA; one beloved sister, Barbara Ann Bowling of Lynchburg, Virginia; her sister-in-law, Kathleen Franklin of Madison Heights, Virginia; and one devoted nephew Lester Bowling. She has 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Scott Zion Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
