Betty Jean Simpson, 72, of Bedford died Wednesday, March 11, 2015. She was the wife of Leo Irvin Simpson for 57 years.

 

Born Thursday, April 16, 1942 in Old Town, Maine, Betty was a daughter of the late Roland McClure and Irma Adams McClure.

 

In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by four children: Robin Johnson (Mike), Kevin Simpson (Marie), Ronda Smith (Eric Payne), all of Forest, and Heidi Simpson (Eddie Floyd), of Bedford; nine grandchildren: Lauren Campbell (Brandon), Tiffany Martin (Jeff), Kristin Wagner (Patrick), Nicholas Smith, Cody Hausser, Logan and Haileigh Hamilton, Lacy and Jordon Floyd; five great grandchildren: Avery and Collin Campbell, Levi and Allison Wagner, and Silas Martin; five siblings: Carole Perkins, William McClure, Wendy Hall, Tammy Cunningham, and Bud McClure.

 

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by two special grandsons, Justin and Kendall Smith, and seven siblings.

 

Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Family was always first to her. She was retired from Lynchburg General Hospital where she enjoyed helping others as a nurse’s aid. She had a love for her dogs and a passion for baking. She will be remembered for her famous whoopie pies and homemade breads.

 

The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, March 15, 2015, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, and at other times at the home of Robin Johnson. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 16, 2015 at Virginia Memorial Park with the Rev. Ralph Jackson officiating.
