Betty L. Hueber went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, and her dearly loved husband James on Sunday May 9, 2021. Born in 1934 as the only child to George and Louise Goodremote, Betty attended Buffalo Teachers College for two years. She married the love of her life James Hueber, in 1954 eventually celebrating 67 years of devoted marriage to each other. Betty worked in retail for many years and spent 10 years working at the Episcopal Thrift Shop in Amherst. She was a devoted Navy wife, standing by her husband throughout his career.
Betty was a dedicated volunteer at both the Bedford Christian Free Clinic and Bedford National D-Day memorial for over 17 years, where she earned Volunteer of the Year many times over. Betty never did any of her service opportunities for the attention or accolades; she did it because she saw a need and enjoyed doing it. She loved helping others and often used her love of crafts to help local charities and support missions. She enjoyed the classical films of the 30,40, and 50’s, especially westerns and war movies. Betty and Jim passionately loved animals, caring for Boxers and rescue German Shepherds over the course of their marriage.
Betty committed her life to her family. She is loved and survived by her daughter Laura, her sons, Dale ( Deborah), Michael (Jan ), and James (Cheryl); as well as 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a good family friend, Don Craighead. Our mother loved that her children and grandchildren were musical, artistic, and motivated to succeed and often chaperoned band and field trips and attended concerts, band competitions, sporting events, recitals, and any event she could make it to.
Betty’s service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Villa Heights Baptist Church in Roanoke at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers please consider sending a donation to the Bedford National D-Day Memorial. There will be an updated obituary with the service info printed in September.
