Betty Mullins Mitchell

Betty Mullins Mitchell, “Grandma Betty”, 77, of Thaxton went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 to be with her Lord and Savior after a short illness. She was born in Burdine, KT on March 19, 1938, the daughter of the late, Vernon Thomas Mullins and Della Brown Mullins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Howard Mitchell and her oldest son, Jeff Mitchell.

Betty is survived by her son, Alan Mitchell and his fiancée, Laura Underwood; Alan’s children Hunter Mitchell and Lindsay Mitchell Critzer and her husband, Ethan; her youngest son, Lee Mitchell and his daughter Crysta Mitchell; also surviving are her son Jeff’s widow, Sandra Mitchell and their children, Jeffrey Mitchell and Diana Hall and her husband, Blake and also their children Taylor Hall, Buddy Hall; her sister, Jeane Hartley; her niece and nephew Edye and Joey and their spouses and children;

Betty graduated with honors from Clintwood High School in Dickenson County, VA. Following a long employment history she spent her later years in volunteer service including, CASA, Bedford Ride and Bedford Christian Ministries.

Funeral services and a celebration of Betty’s life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Pastor David Whitehurst officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 11, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Tharp Funeral Home. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford is assisting the family.
