Betty Bruffy Nichols, 84, of Altavista, passed away Thursday, February 29, 2024. She was the wife of the late Walter Thomas Nichols, Jr.
Betty was born in Lynchburg on November 24, 1939, a daughter of the late Levi Lewis Bruffy and Bessie Otelia Powell Bruffy Kirby. Betty was retired from General Electric and was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church in Evington.
She is survived by her children: Beverly Nichols Vaughan (Phillip) of Altavista, Gary Wayne Nichols, of Altavista and Steven Thomas Nichols, of Lynchburg, seven grandchildren: Kevin, Melissa (Ryan), Kelly (John), Brandy, Darryl (Ashley), Shana (Shawn), and Kathryn (Johnny), and fourteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother Ray Lewis Bruffy, and a nephew Ray Lewis Bruffy, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.
A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Fred Williams officiating.
