Bettye Ann Brewer

September 22, 1940 — December 1, 2022

Bettye Ann Brewer was 82 years young when she went home to be with the Lord on December 1, 2022.

Bettye was born September 22, 1940, to parents John Leonard Hudson and Mary Ruth Henderson. She was born and raised in Villa Rica, Georgia with her younger sister, Ruth and raised by their grandparents Roy and Agnes Bohannon. Bettye was the proud elder sister of siblings from second marriages of both her mother and father.

Bettye moved to New York City and married Andrew Brewer, January 5, 1962.  There they raised two beautiful daughters, Cheryl and Dawn. Bettye attended night school at City College and received an Associate Degree. She worked for New York City Transit System before retiring after 14 years. After retiring and relocating to Lynchburg, Virginia, Bettye returned to the workforce where she assisted teachers and loved children at Perrymont Elementary School.

Bettye is preceded in death by her parents and her loving sister, Ruth Dobbs. Bettye was lovingly known as “G” or “Gran” by friends and family.  She leaves to cherish her memories her daughters Cheryl Brewer and Dawn Thomas; her granddaughters Tamara Brewer and Camara (Barrett) Herndon; her grandchildren Dae Thomas, Dahlia Thomas, Drew Thomas; her great-grandchildren Anani Brewer, Ahviah Brewer, Carine Herndon,  and Corbin Herndon, along with her loving niece Aleta (William) Farmer, and their children Raven and Wesley. In addition to her siblings which she loved dearly.

Bettye rededicated her life to the Lord at the age of 79 at Blue Ridge Community Church where she was a devoted member of Senior Life. She was an adored presence at Liberty Christian Academy where three generations of her family worked or attended.  Gran will be deeply missed by friends, family, and all who knew her.

A memorial service will be conducted Monday, December 5, 2022, at 4:00 pm at Blue Ridge Community Church.
