Beulah Grooms Butler, 80, entered eternal rest at the Lynchburg Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by family on Friday, May 24, 2019. She was born to the late James Rufus Grooms and Ruby Massie Grooms on January 23, 1939 in Amherst, Va.
She accepted Christ and joined Piney Grove Baptist church at a young age and participated in various ministries until she relocated to Washington D.C. in 1956. She held several positions while in D.C. prior to returning to Madison Heights Va. in 1987. Upon her return, she rejoined her church and served faithfully until her death. She was employed at the Central Virginia Training Center until her retirement and continued to work part time as a volunteer at Lynchburg General Hospital for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Roger and James Grooms, and stepdaughter, Robyn Deloatch. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 33 years, Eligah Butler; children, Jacqueline Jackson (Aaron) and Sharon Marshall of Fort Washington, MD and James T. Lilly of Richmond, VA; step-children, Sharon Cross of Bladensburg, MD, Murdess Butler and Judy Butler of Washington, D.C; grandchildren Taryn Jackson Jones (Raymond) of Fort Washington, MD, Keyon Marshall (Patrice) of Forestville, MD; great-grandchildren, Tatum Jackson, Alexander, Aiden and Aliyah Marshall; a devoted sister Ruth Randolph (Howard) of Madison Heights, VA; a dear aunt, Evelyn Sandidge (late Moses) of Amherst, VA; ; sister-in-law, Lola Bell Butler of Johnston, S.C. and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews who held a very special place in her heart.
Beulah’s family will gather at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 322 Puppy Creek Road, Amherst Va. to greet visitors on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will follow promptly at 11:00 a.m. Interment: Briarwood Memorial Garden, Amherst VA.
