Beverly Annette Shuler Scott Knighton passed away on September 29, 2021. She was born on January 8, 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Larry Shuler and Louis “Lucy” Beverly Shuler Whitfield.
Beverly, also known as “BeBe”, moved to Lynchburg, Va. At the age of 10 for a short while, however returned back to Cleveland until the age of 15 when her mother and brother decided to make Lynchburg their permanent home.
BeBe attended many schools and was a part of the Dunbar class of ’69, but because of integration, she spent her senior year attending E. C. Glass High School where she graduated. In her heart and in her classmates’ eyes (who have shown a great deal of love), she will always be class of ’69 Dunbar Poets.
BeBe was a faithful member of Rivermont Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Bible Study, Vacation Bible School, and Sunday School. No matter where BeBe lived, she always found a church home where she was active singing, teaching, preaching, praying, and praising the Lord. She was devoted to her first love Jesus Christ.
BeBe was married twice; her first marriage was to Richard E. Scott, and her second marriage was to the late Donald A. Knighton.
BeBe is survived by one brother, Walter D. Whitfield (April) of Blythewood, S.C..; three daughters, Cassandra N. Scott and Courtney R. Scott of Lynchburg, Va., and LaDawn A. Knighton of Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Candace N. Robey (Aaron), Sharika M. Scott (Lewis), LeAngelo M. Hall, Jr., LeAnie M. Hall, Shiyeaz M. Scott, Kiante M. Burton, LeNiyah M. Hall, and Kenyart E. Boyd, Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Malachi Z. Cash, Isaiah M. Hall, and Ariyah D. Burton; three nieces, TaNisha Williams (Eric), CaTisha Tillman (Raymond), and Courtney Whitfield (Joshua); eight grand-nieces and nephews, Eric Jr., Ethan and Elise Williams, Raymond Jr., Ryan, Robert, and Roman Tillman, and Joshua Ovard, Jr.; beloved cousins Charles and Elynor Rose, Larmore and Sherwood Beverly, and a host of many other relatives, friends, and adopted children.
And spiritually you will live on in each of us. Your life was full of adventure and you handled your suffering with such dignity and grace. You fought long and hard, and as you would say you were a walking, talking, shouting, preaching miracle. Our hearts are heavy, and we will miss you, now rest in peace. We will carry your zest for life in our hearts and wherever we go. Love you Mom – from your three girls. Thank you for every lesson you’ve taught us.
