Billy Watkins Lawrence Sr., 80, of Rustburg, VA, died Monday, June 2, 2014. He was the husband of Peggy Davis Lawrence for 49 years.
Born October 14, 1933 in Lynchburg, VA, a son of the late Daniel Thurman Lawrence, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Ruth Wingfield Lawrence. He retired from General Electric/Ericsson with 32 years of service where he was Chemical Supervisor. He was an active member of Rustburg Baptist Church serving in any capacity that he was led to serve, also being known as the official greeter of the Church.
Billy had the gift of GAB, he never met a stranger and he never forgot a face, always talking to anyone he would meet.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter : Cynthia L. Kerr and Arnie Smith, a son: Billy W. Lawrence, Jr. and Andrea all of Rustburg, three grandchildren: Dr. Andrew L. Barlow and his wife, Brittany of Portsmouth, Ohio, Daniel L. Barlow and his finance, Amber Nail, Kacie A. Hall and Nick Pfarner, three great grandchildren: Becca and Jon Pfarner, Wesley J. Pfarner-Hall of Rustburg; three sisters: Frances Reynolds and Levay Hall of Rustburg, Dawn McCormick and Pete of Forest; three brothers: Thurman Lawrence, Jr. and Martha, Melvin Lawrence all of Lynchburg and Elton Lawrence of Madison Heights. He is also survived by a large extended family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Debra S. Lawrence and her mother: Katherine A. Lawrence, a sister: Hazel L. Franklin, and a son-in-law: Danny Kerr.
A celebration of Billy’s life will be conducted at Rustburg Baptist Church on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Rick Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Cumbie Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
