Blaine R. Brock, Jr.

Blaine Rodney Brock Jr., 58, gained his heavenly wings on August 1, 2020 after a valiant fight with cancer that was diagnosed in May of this year.  He was born in Pennsylvania, but life brought him to Ohio, where he met his wife Cindy, who he made the happiest woman in the world for over 30 years.  They moved to Virginia in 2003 and decided to make it their home when they realized how much they enjoyed not dealing with lots of snow and the cold weather near Lake Erie.

Blaine was an amazing, honest, hard-working man who was absolutely adored by his family.  He was their Hero.  He not only expressed his love in all the small things that he did for them every day, but he told his wife and children each day how much he loved them.  He was a proud U.S. Veteran and a life-long Steelers fan.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, walking in the woods, traveling, and spending quality time with his family. When he was younger, Blaine spent many weekends camping with his parents and fishing on the lake with his dad.  He learned the joy of cooking from his mom, and was a wonderful cook, although he could rarely tell you his recipe since he just added ingredients until something was to his liking.

He will be missed beyond words by his loving wife Cindy Swigunski Brock, his son Timothy Brock, and his daughter Raeleigh Brock.  He is survived by his parents, Blaine Sr., and Mary Brock, of Pierpont, Ohio.  He leaves behind his cancer support group, whose motto from the start of his journey was, “In this family, no one fights alone.”  They include his mother-in-law, Sue Swigunski, his sisters-in-law, Jennifer Cauwenbergh & Kristin Swigunski, his brothers-in-law, Joseph Swigunski & Jude Cauwenbergh, and his nephews, Justin & Alex French, Ian Cauwenbergh, and Raymond & Marik Swigunski.  He will be greatly missed by numerous other family members, friends, and his 5 little fur-babies that loved to snuggle with him.  He was preceded in death by many loved ones ready to greet him with open arms in Heaven.

Blaine loved God and family, and genuinely cared about others.  Life is better when you are laughing, and he had a great sense of humor.  Many vacations with extended family were enjoyed over the years, where they could always count on getting a picture of him sleeping somewhere, and him making them laugh.  They would wake up to the smell of bacon cooking in the morning, as he was usually the first one up.  He would join in the ‘shenanigans’ with his kids & nephews and loved to playfully pick on his mother-in-law and sister-in-law.  He would spoil his wife by buttering her bread & cutting the fat off her meat.  He was so proud of his son and daughter.  He talked about his family all the time.  He did little things with lots of love.  He leaves his family many wonderful memories to cherish.

The family invites those wishing to pay their last respects to join them at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, Va.  This will be followed by a graveside service at Fort Hill Memorial Park, 5196 Fort Avenue, Lynchburg, Va.  The family will be wearing Steelers apparel or the colors of black and gold as a tribute to Blaine’s love of the Pittsburgh Steelers and invites visitors to do the same.
