Bobby N Bishop

June 21, 1933 — August 17, 2020

On August 17,2020 Bobby Nelson Bishop, loving husband and father of two, grandfather of four, and great-grandfather of two passed away peacefully at Westminster Canterbury at the age of 87.

Bobby was born to Willard and Ella (Rhodes) Bishop of Charlottesville, Virginia June 21, 1933.  Bobby served in the Army from 1953 to 1955.  Part of this time he was an MP in Korea. After discharge from the service, Bobby returned to Charlottesville to marry his wife Laura Anne Hughes on June 15, 1957.  Soon after Bobby and Anne moved to Lynchburg, Virginia where they raised two children, Kathryn and Barry.  Bobby drove a truck for the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company for several years, ensuring that he and his daughter were life-long fans and consumers of Dr. Pepper.  Subsequently and until retirement, Bobby worked at Virginia Baptist Hospital as a maintenance mechanic.  His duties also included driving the bus, affectionately known as the Blue Goose, for the VBH School of Nursing.

Bobby had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed talking to, joking with, and finding common ground with everyone he met.  He was a member of First Christian Church on Rivermont Avenue, and loved fishing, hunting, and traveling with his wife.  They visited places as far away as Denmark, Italy and Peru.

Bobby was preceded in death by his father Willard, his mother Ella, his brothers John, Tommy, and Earl, his sister Jeanette, and his son Barry.  He is survived by his wife Anne, his daughter Kathryn, his four grandchildren, Dominic Bartholf, Luke Bartholf, Morgan (Kevin) Dawson and Colby (Callie) Bishop and his two great-grandchildren, Olivia Dawson and Mason Dawson as well as several nieces and nephews.

Bobby elected to be cremated so there will be no burial. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
