Bonnie Poff Heller

Bonnie Joyce Poff Heller, 64, passed away June 12, 2013, after living with cancer for more than 15 years. She was of the Episcopalian faith.

Bonnie is survived by her adoring husband of 42 years, H. Thomas \"Tom\" Heller, III. She is also survived by her three children, William Thomas \"Tom\" Heller, and his wife Jacqueline, of Fairfax, Virginia; Melissa Dawn Heller-Rector, and her husband Scott, of Forest, Virginia; and Kevin Thomas Heller, and his wife Stacey, of Pulaski, Virginia. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Grayson Scott Rector, Griffith Thomas Heller, Teresa Marie Heller, Clark Arrington Rector, and Sydney Allison Heller; and two special children, Logan Nicole Rector and Christopher Collin Rector. She was the best \"Mayse\" in the world \"" just ask any of her grandchildren. Additionally, Bonnie is survived by a sister-in-law, Ann \"Mac\" Heller Gardner, and her husband Robert, as well as two nieces, Kelly and Ashley Gardner, and two nephews, Jason and Troy Gardner, all of Lynchburg.

Bonnie was a 1969 graduate of The Lynchburg General Hospital School of Nursing, and a registered nurse. She spent her entire adult life giving to others as a nurse at Lynchburg General Hospital, Virginia Baptist Hospital, and most notably, for the last 26 years at Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg, in various positions of administration and nursing services.

Bonnie was truly an inspiration to all who knew her \"" especially as she endured numerous surgeries, countless chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and seemingly endless appointments. Always caring for others before herself, it was only in the last 18 months that she was unable to work.

Words cannot express the gratitude we, as her family, feel toward all that cared for her. We would like to especially thank Dr. James A. Smith, the late Dr. David Hill, Dr. David Lefke, Dr. William Kittrell, Dr. Richard Miller, Dr. Robert Messier, Dr. Robert Driscoll, Dr. Dean Clower, Dr. Soni Carlton, and the entire staff of Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg.

Additionally, and most especially, we would like to thank Dr. Dwight Oldham, and the entire staff of Lynchburg Hematology/Oncology. Dr. Oldham provided much more than medical service to Bonnie \"" he was a mentor, counselor, trusted advisor, and most importantly, a friend during Bonnie\"™s journey with cancer and Lynch Syndrome.

At Bonnie\"™s request (and in keeping with her history of never wanting to be the center of attention), there will be no formal memorial service or funeral. The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home, Breezewood Drive, on Monday, June 17th, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, Bonnie requested donations be made to the Cary A. Coffing Scholarship at Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg, providing employees with educational scholarships, or the Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center.
