Brenda Delores Shelton transitioned from labor to reward on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born on May 5, 1948, to the late Leroy J. Shelton Sr. and Mildred Johnson Shelton.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by both maternal and paternal grandparents; two sisters, Jacqueline Shelton and Veronica “Kalimah” Samiullah (Muhammad); sister-in-law, Starlet “Chris” Shelton; aunt, Ruby Jones (Samuel); uncle, Donald Johnson (Joan); aunt, Gene Anderson; and nephew, Ahmed Shelton.
She is survived by her uncle, Melvin Johnson (Veronica); aunt, Carolyn Pryor (John); sister, Judith Shelton; brother, Leroy “Boo” Shelton Jr (Chris); Joanne Copeland, and devoted cousins, Carlita Jones, and Marie Shelton; her church family; Pastor Golden T. Darby (Alrose); her Godmother Miriam; and the entire Phelps family.
Brenda will also be missed by seven nieces and nephews; Mustafa Samiullah, Munsur Samiullah, and Samiya Samiullah of Brooklyn, New York. Nahdia Shelton-Tabron(Wayne) of Maryland, Shareef Shelton( Casey) of Lynchburg, VA., Saudia Wade (Frank) of Forest, VA, and Tahib Shelton (Kaitlin) of Harrisonburg, VA; and thirteen great nieces and nephews, who will miss the presence of their beloved aunt. Brenda also leaves behind to cherish in her memory, a host of cousins, family, and friends.
Born and raised on White Rock Hill, Brenda was the eldest of five siblings. She had a nurturing spirit from birth and was ready for the world. Brenda cared for and loved everyone that encountered her especially small children. Brenda assisted in nurturing her nieces and nephews and remained active in their lives.
She cared for and helped anyone in need of assistance with their children. Brenda’s loving kindred spirit will be missed.
At an early age Brenda was introduced to Jesus Christ at White Rock Baptist. Later attending New Life Gospel Assembly where she was truly devoted in faith and in service remaining active in the church through various activities.
Brenda had incredible faith, wore her shield, and carried her sword wherever she went. She was a walking testament to God’s true love.
Brenda was tender-hearted and each person had a special place in her heart. She constantly cared for her siblings even making her brother “Boo” a priority since his birth. She delighted in the fact of caring for her baby brother. Brenda’s sudden departure will leave an immediate impact on the family.
Brenda loved telling stories of growing up and her times at BB-N-Grill located in White Rock. She was well known throughout and never met a stranger. Her laugh was contagious and her smile so innocent.
A Celebration of Life will be held at New Life Gospel Assembly, 2261 Campbell Avenue, Lynchburg, VA, 24504 on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Golden T. Darby officiating and rendering the eulogy.
