Brenda Doss

Brenda Booker Doss, 79, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on September 21, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Charlie William Booker and Flora Cunningham Booker.

Brenda was born on April 24, 1944, in Lynchburg, VA. She attended E.C. Glass High School and received her RN degree from Lynchburg General School of Nursing. Brenda was a force in the General Emergency Room for 40 years. She served as a Staff Nurse and then became a Charge Nurse mentoring many young nurses. She called them her “children” and they called her “Mother” or “Mama”. Those relationships were very special to Brenda and she loved her hospital “children” deeply.

After her many years at Lynchburg General Hospital, Brenda retired in 2001. Being a tireless worker, Brenda began working full-time at Lynchburg College in the Student Health Department where she had been working part-time since 1987. In 2011 Brenda retired from Lynchburg College after a total of 25 years of service.

Brenda is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Timothy A. Doss (Tim) and her children, Christopher Scott Doss (Holly) and Jeffrey Todd Doss (Jessica); her grandchildren: Courtney Doss, Kathryn Doss, Timothy Doss, Zachary Doss, Isabella Furhman, Yahaira Hernandez; her sister: Sherry Cronk (Mike); her Sister-in-Law: Judy Gibson, and many loving friends in the Timberlake community. In addition to her parents, Brenda joins her son, Charles Kevin Doss, in Heaven.

Being a very loving person, Brenda had a lot of “adopted” children that she considered to be part of her extended family, in particular, the Reynolds family across the street. Mrs. “Brenna”, as their children called her, was positive that God placed them there for us.

Brenda was a member of Timberlake Church. She was a woman with strong faith and loved the Lord. She participated in many church activities, Bible studies, the quilting group, and her Sunday school class and many others. She was active in the Timberlake Community with Timberlake Garden Club and served on the board of the Timberlake Home Owners Association. Brenda enjoyed her card and game group, which met once or twice a week at Timberlake Tavern to play games. Oh, the stories they tell and the names they call each other. Her favorite name, given by her friend Mary, was “Suster”. Brenda will be greatly missed in the Timberlake Community.

Brenda was an avid reader active in 3 book clubs.

Brenda treasured time with her family. She was a great “Boy Mom” raising three boys and she spent a lot of time on bleachers and traveling to ball games. She was a VMI and Virginia Tech fan who always pulled for her son’s schools no matter, win or lose.

Brenda and Tim were blessed to travel extensively. They saw many beautiful places and saw many amazing sites. They made friends and created many lifetime memories.

A celebration of Brenda’s life, officiated by Pastor Brad McMullen, will be held on Monday, October 2nd at 2pm at Timberlake Church with fellowship after the service.
