Brigitte Shroyer, 77, of Forest, VA, passed away on Sunday, June 09, 2019 while traveling back to her home country, Germany. Born Tuesday, June 24, 1941 in Kassel, Germany, Brigitte was the daughter of the late Auguste Elisabeth Kopitzsch & Kraftfahrers Georg August Kopitzsch. Brigitte spent her childhood in Germany and ventured to the United States as a young woman at the age of 18.
She was the loving wife of Allan F. Shroyer for 51 years. In addition to her husband, Brigitte is survived by her 6 children; Claudia Shroyer, James Bailey, Johnny Bailey, Steven Bailey, Freddie Bailey and Michelle Thomas, as well as 7 grandchildren; Nathaniel Bailey, Abigail Bailey, Gabrielle Hansen, Leila Bailey, Hunter Thomas, Riley Thomas and Lane Bailey, as well as many great grandchildren. We will always love and miss our grandmother, mother and wife every single day.
In addition to her parents, Brigitte was preceded in death by her son, Michael and 3 of her 4 siblings; Michael Kopitzsch, Waltraud Kopitzsch, Margot Reisse and Rosemary Goulet. She is survived by her
86-year-old sister, Helga Schlöffel with whom she just spent a week together with.
Brigitte’s greatest legacy was that of motherhood. She supported each of her children in all of their endeavors be it horse shows, football or baseball games, track & field or dance. All of her grandchildren were her pride & joy. She enjoyed traveling to Michigan to see her children, grandchildren & friends and loved every opportunity she had to see her granddaughters take the stage. Brigitte had a passion for travel and cruising the world with her husband, Al.
There will be a private visitation for the family from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2019 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Saturday, June 22, 2019 the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the Memorial Service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. a prayer service celebrating Brigitte’s life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. at Tharp Funeral Home with Tom Bryant officiating.
