Brinda Sue Moss Calloway, 71, of Lynchburg, transitioned from this world on Saturday night, March 4, 2023, to her heavenly home. The youngest of four children to Robert and Lucinda Moss, Brinda was a graduate of Campbell County High School, class of 1969.
In 1970, she was wedded in holy matrimony to Charles Stewart Calloway. In to this reunion, they were blessed with one son. Brinda accepted Christ at an early age at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Evington, VA.; later joining her husband’s church, redirecting her life by becoming a member of St. Paul Baptist Church. She worked for Nationwide Insurance for thirty-five years in the claims Department before retiring in 2008.
Brinda enjoyed retirement spending her time as an avid gardener, where she excelled in flower beds and vegetable gardens. One of her passions was growing fruit and vegetables grown in her back yard, then sharing with friends and neighbors from Big Island, Moneta, Roanoke, and even Washington, DC.. Her favorite vegetable was fresh corn from the garden. When Charles would ask how many ears of corn she wanted for dinner, Brinda would reply, six or seven; eating every one of them. Then telling Charles, “If you tell anybody, I’m gonna punch you in the nose.”
Brinda had a great appreciation for classic movies, anything about the old West and British TV shows; a viewing preference she passed along to her son. While most modern TV shows were of no interest, Brinda did find time to watch reality TV if it focused on living in Alaska. She also loved to read in her spare time. Her favorite authors were Linda Lael Miller and William W. Johnstone.
She was an excellent cook, taking great joy fixing meals on weekends for her family or making to-go plates for Charles Jr. to eat at home after work.
In her last days as a terminally ill patient, Brinda had a few reflections and memoirs that she discussed with her husband while in the hospital. One was about her son, who was her biggest pride and joy. Her prayer was that we would be there for one another, and keep the faith in God. Another was to her husband, to be there for their son, but give him his own space. She also asked Charles to keep faith in God, and if you want to see me again, don’t fall off the wagon.
She leaves to morn her husband of 52 years, Charles Calloway, Sr. son, Charles Calloway, Jr., sister, Paulette Washington of Coral Springs, FL. Two brothers, Kurt Moss (Ruth) of Evington, VA, Rodney Moss of Lynchburg, Sister-in-laws, Karolynn Moore (Gary), of Fairfax Station, VA., Loretta Brown of Capital Heights, MD., brother-in-law, Wilbur Brown, Jr. of Washington, DC. Three nieces, Stephanie Moss Brown (Dee), Regina Moss Woodson (Patrick), Petrice Longenecker (Jason), and four nephews, Tim Moss, Greg Moss, Tre Wilbur Brown, III, and Ivan Brown.
