Brona “Bonnie” Shields, formerly of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully at home on August 18th in Alexandria, Virginia, in the company of her beloved daughter Debi who was her devoted caregiver.
She was an obstetrics RN for many years, helping to deliver lots of babies. Her last position was working as Director of Nursing at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Bonnie was a strong woman with a kind and compassionate heart. Despite the many hardships in her life, she never wavered in her faith in God. Even though she was bedridden the last few years of her life, she was a prayer warrior to the end. Bonnie was ready to meet her Lord and be reunited with her beloved husband.
Her suffering has ended, and we grieve but not as those without hope.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Shields and Lisa Shields White, son-in-law Jamey White, grandchildren Libby White and Matthew White, and a fluffy little granddog named Ginger who loved to curl up at her feet as she slept. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Shields. Bonnie will be interred at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in her birthplace of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
A celebration of her life will take place at 3:30 pm on Saturday, August 26th at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive in Lynchburg, visitation of the family will begin at 2:30 pm.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
