Bryant Elwood Ramsey was delivered by his grandmother on June 1, 1931, in the home of his late parents, Lomonia and Permelia Hughes Ramsey in Amherst County, VA.
After a full life of 93 years, he passed away peacefully at his home in Madison Heights, VA on December 12, 2024.
Bryant Ramsey loved the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Prior to his death, he was the oldest living member of the Lynchburg SDA Church. He served his country as a medic during the Korean War. He was married to the love of his life, Joyce Rogers Ramsey. They celebrated 70 years of marriage on June 20, 2024. Bryant worked for over 50 years as a painting contractor. Bryant lived a faithful, Godly life. He was a kind, friendly, hard-working man. He never met a stranger. His personal life was enriched by his four children, five grand & seven great-grandchildren. Bryant loved spending time reading his Bible. His hobbies included NASCAR and working on various types of puzzles. He loved to travel and was known for drinking mostly Dr. Pepper and owning only Ford vehicles all his life.
Bryant E. Ramsey is survived by his wife, Joyce Rogers Ramsey; son, Rick Ramsey (Jeannie) of Forest, VA; daughter, Sharon Ramsey of Madison Heights, VA; sister, Wynelle Mason of Buena Vista, VA; grandchildren, Melissa Mull (Billy), Matt Ramsey, Mandy Burks (Logan), Michael Sperberg (Heather); and great-grandchildren, Hannah, Marlee, Marrion, Khloe, Bella, Jack, and Nova. Bryant also is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and their children.
Bryant was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wilfred and Wade Ramsey; sisters, Maybelle Wellman and Vada Watts; daughters, Dianne Ramsey Scoville, Melinda Ramsey Capps; and grandson Mitch Ramsey.
The family will receive family & friends on Sunday, December 22 from 3-5 p.m.
Bryant’s funeral service will be on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 1 p.m.Both events will be held at Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory 220 Breezewood Drive Lynchburg, VA. Charles Oliveri and Joshua Lizarraga will both officiate.
In lieu of flowers the Ramsey family requests donations be sent to Desmond T. Doss Christian Academy’s Worthy Student Fund @ 19 George Street Lynchburg, VA 24502.
