Callie Margaret Parish Newton died peacefully while holding her son’s hand in the early morning hours on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Westminster Canterbury, Lynchburg, Virginia at the age of 89 years after a protracted illness.
She joins her loving husband, Arlindar Cleveland Newton; their first son, Dr. Cleveland Dave Newton; her parents, and all of her beloved sisters and brothers.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Richard and Grace Newton of Lynchburg, Virginia; her grandson, Dr. Alexander Newton of Saylorsville, Pennsylvania; her granddaughter, Anna Newton of Atlanta, Georgia and numerous loving nieces and nephews in Mississippi.
She spent most of her life in Crystal Springs, Mississippi where she loved her family, and adored living in her rural home. Gardening and her pets were her loves. It was important for her to provide meals to all who visited. She relished sharing her plants with anyone who was willing to plant one in his or her own yard. She spent the last years of her life in Lynchburg, Virginia with her son and daughter-in-law where she continued to give love, smiles and hugs. She will be missed more than she could have imagined and by more people than she could have imagined.
There will be a brief graveside service at Old Crystal Springs Cemetery on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 1 p.m. where her ashes will be interred. Visitation with her immediate family will follow at First Presbyterian Church, 316 Marion Ave, Crystal Springs, Mississippi.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be welcome at First Presbyterian Church, Crystal Springs, Mississippi or to Meals on Wheels 605 Clay St, Lynchburg, Va. 24504.
