Calvin “Bigg Daddy” Mawyer

Calvin \"Bigg Daddy\" Carroll Mawyer, 67, of Lynchburg, died on December 27, 2013. He was the husband of Eva M. Mawyer for 45 years.

Born Thursday, August 29, 1946 in Lynchburg, Calvin was a son of the late Mary Stinson Mawyer and the late Thurman Mawyer.

In addition to his wife, Calvin is survived by his children: Calvin Mawyer, Jr., of Lynchburg, Christina Mawyer, of Lynchburg, and Cathy Witcher and her husband, Doug, of Moneta; a grandson Christopher Ellis and his wife, Tia, of Lynchburg, two sisters: M. Jane Ayers and her husband, Leroy, of Rustburg, and Della Mawyer and her boyfriend, Eddie Staton, of Rustburg; three brothers: Thurman Mawyer, Jr., and his wife, Donna, of Lynchburg, John Mawyer, of Stanley, VA, and Thomas Mawyer, of Evington; a special niece, Amy Branham, of Lynchburg, a special nephew, Bradley Branham, of Lynchburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.

\"Bigg Daddy\", as Calvin was affectionately called, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He loved to hunt and fish and watch sports, especially the Redskins. He was also known for being a prankster. He was a good man who would give you the shirt off his back if he knew you needed it. Calvin proudly served our country in the Vietnam War as a member of the US Army. He worked for the City of Lynchburg in their Maintenance Department for 23 years.

A Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 30, 2013 in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights, with the Rev. Stuart Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery 907 Bailey Street, Lynchburg.
