Calvin Clyde Powell

Calvin Clyde Powell, 80, of Rustburg, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011.

Calvin was born June 8, 1930 in Nelson County, a son of the late William A. Powell, Sr. and the late Helen Ballew Powell.  He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Teamsters Joint Union. He was a truck driver for more than 40 years retiring from Smith\"™s Transfer.         

He is survived by three daughters, Mary Powell of Rustburg, Frances Booker and husband, Scottie, of Rustburg, and Debra Wilson of Rustburg; two grandchildren, Jessica Carter and Kiana Booker, both of Rustburg; three sisters, Betty Duncan of Tennessee, Mary Williamson of Rustburg, and Lucille Paige and husband, Ray, of Lynchburg; a

Brother, David Powell (Jake) of Rustburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Powell, Jr. and Henry Powell; and two sisters, Edith Willoby and Dorothy Wilson.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM on Friday, February 18, 2011, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory.  A celebration of Calvin's life will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Bill Evans and Minister Bettie Wright, mother of his children officiating.  Military honors will be performed by the American Legion Post #16. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
