Carita King Sydnor, 93, died Wednesday, February 15, 2017, in Lynchburg, Va.
Born August 25, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Thomas Joel King and Rita App King. She was married for 48 years to Dr. Walker P. Sydnor. who predeceased her. In addition, she was predeceased by a daughter, Cynthia Sydnor Taylor, and two brothers, T.J. King Jr. and Dr. C. Sidney King.
Surviving her are a daughter, Elizabeth S. Blevins and husband, Robert W. Blevins of Lynchburg, and two sons, Walker P. Sydnor, Jr. and wife, Sallie H. Sydnor of Lynchburg and Charles L. Sydnor of Burbank, Ca. She is survived by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
After graduating from E. C. Glass High School in 1940, she attended Lynchburg College, Throughout her life she continued private music study. For 35 years she was Organist/Chair Director at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was a member. Active in the Lynchburg Chapter, American Guild of Organists, she served as dean and in other positions. While living at Fort Monroe, Va., she was organist at the historic post chapel. Subsequently, she was organist in several Hampton Roads and Richmond, Va. churches. She was an accompanist in the music department of Randolph-Macon Women’s College, and Virginia Episcopal School.

A visitation will be held Friday, February 17, 2017, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017, 1 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with a reception after the service. A family graveside service will follow the reception.
