Carl L. “Sonny” Hicks

Carl Lewis Hicks Jr., 81, of Evington, VA, died Friday, April 06, 2012. He was the husband of the late Ann Perkins Pearson Hicks, for 29 years.

 Born Friday, August 08, 1930 in Campbell County, Sonny was a son of the late Carl Lewis Hicks, Sr. and the late Virginia Leftwich Hicks.

 Sonny is survived by his children: Karen Hicks Norman, of Greenville, NC, Carl Lewis Hicks III and his wife, Gail, of Woodbridge, VA, Stuart Austin Hicks and his wife, Ellen, of Corpus Christi, TX; Sherry Pearson Riley, and her husband John, of Raleigh, NC, Sandra Pearson, of Spout Spring, eight grandchildren: Stephanie Norman, Adrienne Norman, Kevin Hicks, Eric Hicks, Allan Riley, and his wife, Elizabeth, Nathan Riley, Elizabeth Major, and Ann Major; and a sister, Rosalie Eldridge, of Evington.

 Sonny was a dairy and beef cattle farmer. He graduated from New London Academy. He loved the outdoors especially canoeing and bike riding. And enjoyed classical music and playing the trumpet. Sonny was a founding member of the Bedford Historical Society and The Friends of New London. He proudly served our country as a member of the US Army.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM on Monday, April 9, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory with the Rev. John Pickett officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 16.
