Carl Bryant Sexton, 71, of Bedford, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 15, 2016. Carl was born December 22, 1944 in Cincinnati, Ohio, a son of the late William Fillmore Sexton and Lillian Marie Blackburn Sexton. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, William Gregory Sexton and his sister, Linda Karen DeYoung.
He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968. Following the military Carl received his GED with classes provided by the Army. Throughout his work career he held numerous jobs, although he later became a truck driver with Wilson Trucking Corporation. He enjoyed the early morning thrill of a yard sale, often looking for items to add to his brass collection. Carl also enjoyed watching a good wrestling match, playing Bingo, and travelling with family and friends.
Carl leaves behind to cherish his memory two sons and four daughters; three brothers, Harold Gene Sexton, Gary Allen Sexton and wife, Dorita, and Ronnie Sexton; two sisters, Judy Pendleton and husband, Doug, and Evelyn Tolley; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Bedford County Nursing Home and Centra Hospice for their help and support during this most difficult time.
A Memorial Service will be held in honor of Carl’s life at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Tharp Funeral Home’s Bedford Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Glass officiating and Military Honors provided by Army National Guard. The family will receive friends for a visitation one hour prior to the service also in the chapel.
