Carl Woodson Lyles, 81, of Lynchburg, passed away at his home on December 3, 2014.

He was born on September 9, 1933, to the late Gordie Woodson Lyles and the late Elizabeth Jennings Lyles. Carl was a long time member of Beulah Baptist Church, and was the former owner of Lyles’ Home Shop in Lynchburg for twenty-seven years. When he retired, Carl missed all of his customers very much. He was also a devout Christian and a devoted husband and father.

Carl was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Mann Lyles and his second wife, Virginia “Ginnie” Perkey Lyles.

Left behind to cherish Carl’s memory are his three children: Harold W. Lyles and his wife Margaret of Forest, Barbara L. Spangler of Lynchburg, and Denise L. Griffiths of Texas; three stepchildren: Randee Perkey Humphrey and  husband Steve of Richmond, Chip Perkey and his wife, Margaret of Lynchburg, and Rich Perkey and his wife, Jill of Atlanta; five grandchildren: Christie L. Ewers of Bedford, Tammy L. Carter and her husband Josh of Forest, Rebecca N. Fleshman of Madison Heights, Linda Kay Bagwell of Oklahoma, and Ann Marie Bagwell of Oklahoma; five step grandchildren: Corey Humphrey, Justin Perkey, Kelsey Perkey, Connor Perkey, and Mary Brooks Perkey; and three great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight, Friday, December 5, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg. A memorial service will be held tomorrow, Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 12 p.m. at Beulah Baptist Church with the Pastor Dennis Hollandsworth officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
