Carlton Gordon Meador
Carlton Gordon Meador, 86, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010. Born May 17, 1924 in Moneta, a son of the late Lizzie C. Hannabass Meador and Virgil A. Meador.
He was retired from Montvale Shredded Products and was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. He was a wonderful Christian who loved God, his family and bluegrass and country music. Carlton had enjoyed living at and participating in all the programs at the Bedford County Nursing Home for more than six years. He loved sitting in his \"special corner\" and talking with everyone who came by.
In addition to his parents, Carlton was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Washington Witt Meador; a daughter, Bonnie Lou Meador; a son, Harold Edward Meador; a sister, Thelma Ellis; and two brothers, Lafayette Meador and Merrell Meador. He is survived by three daughters, Nancy M. Dooley and her husband, Herbert Paul of Troutville, Linda M. Witt and her husband, Steve of Bedford and Brenda M. Gardner and her friend, O.D. Holland of Bedford; three sisters, Laurice M. Dillon of Vinton, Dorothy M. Hurt and her husband, Alfred of Moneta and Lois M. Scott of Roanoke; three brothers, Leslie Meador, Donald Meador and his wife, Kathy and Franklin Meador and his wife, Jean all of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Robbie Meador and his wife, Jeanette of Bedford, Joni Goff and her husband, Jeremy of Thaxton and Tanya Stinnett and her husband, Paul of Lynchburg; and five great-grandchildren, Chase Meador, Hannah and Trevor Goff, and Ty and Audrey Stinnett.
The family would like to thank everyone at the Bedford County Nursing Home for always making Daddy feel so \"special\".
A celebration of Carlton\"™s life will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 27, 2010, in the Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Les Trail and Rev. Dr. Carl H. Douglass, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory and all other times at the home of Brenda Gardner, 901 Pinecrest Ave. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, 586-3443.
