Carlton Melvin Fisher, Sr. 78, of Evington, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Born June 28, 1936, he was the last surviving child out of 11 children born to the late James Edward Lee Fisher and Mary Tucker Fisher.
Carlton was a member of Rustburg Baptist Church. He retired as a supervisor from Automated Conveyor System in 1998.
Carlton loved his wife, children, family and home. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed hunting, fishing and auto-cross. In recent years, he had pleasure in sitting on his deck watching the deer, turkey, and birds in his back yard.
In addition to his parents, Carlton was the last of 11 children.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Phyllis Brooks Fisher; children, Libby Barksdale and husband, Mike, Carlton “Butch†Fisher, Jr. and wife, Kathy, and Joni Foster; eight grandchildren, Lisa Fisher and fiancé, Brett Holt, Bruce Fisher and wife, Amy, Meagan Bullington and husband, Tyler, Paul Barksdale and wife, Anna, and Terrell, Tucker, Randi, and Samantha Foster; and four great-grandchildren, Abigail and Noah Fisher, Korben and Jackson Barksdale.
A special “Thank You†to Raymond Rowland and Billy and Pat Preston for their friendship and care during Carlton’s illness.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 29, 2014 at Rustburg Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Cumbie Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Tharp Funeral Home.
