Carol Causey Meadors, 78, of Lynchburg, VA, died Saturday, October 1, after a long and difficult battle against Alzheimer\"™s disease. She was a rare beauty, a grateful and happy soul who spoke of her life in terms of wonder and thanksgiving. She cherished the simple and majestic beauties of nature: hidden ferns in her garden, long-awaited bulbs just appearing in spring, the color of leaves in the fall. She celebrated the creativity of artists everywhere, but her greatest praise she reserved for the earnest efforts of children. The artwork of her children and grandchildren adorned privileged places in her home, which was fitting, since most of all she loved the beauty of home. She worked to make her home a place of warm comfort and complete belonging for her husband, children, and guests. The family gathered around a table with the rich bounty of the holidays was the greatest beauty she knew, the highest expression of divine generosity and a foretaste of redemption to come.
Carol Meadors was born into the family of the late John and Ruby Causey on August 19, 1933 in Greenville, MS. She attended Greenville High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, editor of the annual, and the Homecoming Queen. After high school graduation in 1951, she attended Randolph Macon Woman\"™s College in Lynchburg, VA, where she was president of the Baptist Student Union, a member of the May Court, and a member of Chi Omega. On August 24, 1954, she married her childhood sweetheart, Marvin Porter Meadors, Jr., also of Greenville. After Dr. Meadors completed his medical training at Tulane Medical School in New Orleans, the couple lived briefly in Cleveland, MS, before moving to Memphis, TN, where Dr. Meadors served as staff pathologist at Baptist Memorial Hospital. The Meadors family belonged to the First Baptist Church of Memphis, where Carol was a missions education leader, children\"™s Sunday School teacher, and active member of the Woman\"™s Missionary Union (WMU). The Meadors lived in Louisville, KY, from 1975 to 1979. Dr. Meadors was on the Pathology staff at Methodist Evangelical Hospital. During their tenure in Louisville, the Meadors family was deeply involved in the community of faith at St. Matthews Baptist Church. In 1979, Dr. and Mrs. Meadors moved to Jackson, MS, where Dr. Meadors completed his medical career at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. Once again, Mrs. Meadors gave generously of her time and resources to the local Baptist Church, first at Parkway Baptist Church and then at the First Baptist Church of Jackson. At both places she taught children\"™s Sunday School, was a missions education leader, and participated in WMU missions circles. Her social life included participation in the Ladybugs Bridge Club, various luncheon clubs, and the Heritage Antiques Club. She was a children\"™s docent at the Mississippi Museum of Art and a volunteer at The Palette Café.
In November of 2004, Dr. and Mrs. Meadors moved to Lynchburg, VA to live near their daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and David Cresson. In Lynchburg they joined the Peakland Baptist Church. Mrs. Meadors lived the last five years of her life in the Westminster Canterbury Drinkard Health Center.
