Carol Cook Slaughter

September 12, 1962 — February 7, 2025

Lynchburg, Virginia

It is with love and compassion, we announce the passing of Carol Cook-Slaughter, age 62, of Lynchburg, Virginia. Carol peacefully departed this life on February 7, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on September 12, 1962, to Jean Carolyn Hunter (Mother) and the late David Alexander Cook (Father) in Chatham, Virginia.

Carol was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. She leaves behind her beloved children: David Marshall Jr., Daniel Marshall, and Stefanie Jackson; her cherished grandchildren; and a host of loving relatives and dear friends.

Carol was a woman whose love for her family and community knew no bounds. Raised in Chatham, she relocated to Lynchburg at the age of 17 to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. For 23 years, Carol devoted herself to the healthcare profession with Centra Healthcare Hospital, where she touched the lives of countless patients, providing care, compassion, and hope. Her unwavering commitment to helping others extended beyond the hospital walls, as she contributed to numerous community healthcare programs, always driven by her desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Carol was known for her strength, resilience, and kindness. She faced life’s challenges with grace and dignity, and her spirit of generosity and selflessness inspired all who knew her. Her legacy is one of compassion, dedication, and unwavering love for her family, friends, and community.

In her own words, Carol requested that there be no formal service. Instead, she wished for her family and friends to celebrate her life with joy and gratitude, continuing her legacy of giving and helping others. Carol’s passing marks the end of an era, but her influence will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. She now rests in peace, knowing that her life made a difference.

The family asks that, in lieu of a service, all who knew Carol honor her memory through acts of kindness, continued service to the community, and by embracing the love she shared throughout her life.

Dear momma, we love you dearly and will forever carry your spirit with us. May you rest in peace, and may your light continue to shine in our hearts.
