Carol Quibell was a true rock star. Her life’s mission was to bring joy to everyone she encountered. If you visited her at Smith Mountain Lake and mentioned your love for shrimp cocktail, she’d have an entire platter waiting for you—every single time. Carol’s energy was boundless. She talked faster, walked quicker, and never stopped cooking, cleaning, or entertaining until she quite literally fell asleep.
Carol is survived by her husband, Ruegg, her best friend and loving partner of 65 years. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
In her early career, Carol was a true pioneer—an entrepreneur who thrived in a time when computers were still a mystery to most. She typed faster than anyone, and her business designing brochures, pamphlets, lottery tickets, and more flourished. Starting in the 1970s, Carol mastered a craft that was ahead of her time, proving her determination and ingenuity.
To know Carol was a gift; to be in her inner circle was an honor. Her feisty humor brought laughter wherever she went, earning the nickname “The Carol and Ruegg Show”—and what a show it was.
Carol’s generosity, thoughtfulness, and kindness knew no bounds. She volunteered at church, where her famous egg salad sandwiches on white bread became legendary among parishioners. Her practical jokes brought tears of laughter, and her selflessness was unmatched. She was the heart of her family, always treating everyone as if they were staying in a five-star hotel.
Her hands were never idle.
Carol’s passion for giving was most evident in her crocheting. She knitted countless blankets, gifting them to newborns, nursing homes, her church, and anyone in need of comfort. Her unwavering love and dedication made the world a brighter place for all who knew her.
Carol leaves behind her beloved daughters, Dr. Dianne Quibell and Tiffany Tatom; her cherished son-in-law Matt, who became like a son to her; and her extraordinary grandchildren: Cassie, Austin, Caro, Jelly, Connor, and Sawyer. She also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends, all of whom she adored deeply.
Carol’s life was a beacon of joy, love, and humor. She was, and always will be, an icon. Her memory will live on in the lives she touched, her legacy of love, and the laughter she brought to so many.
In respect of Carol's wishes, there will be no service, viewing, or funeral. All gifts in her memory can be sent to the Christ Community Church, 14900 Old Franklin Turnpike, Penhook, VA 24137. (540-576-4242)
