Carole Sue Frei Butenhoff, of Moneta died Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the age of 81. She was the wife of Clarence Harold Butenhoff.
Born December 8, 1935, Carole was the daughter of the late John Frei and Linda Einert Frei Gauger. She was a member of Trinity Ecumenical Parish.
Carole is survived by her husband, three children: Peggy Criswell and husband Casey, Peter Butenhoff and wife Joni, and Holly Houlik and husband James; sisters, Nancy Rossa and Sandy Anderson. She has three grandchildren: Jasmine Tesdahl, wife of Eugene; Summer Walter, wife of Andrew; and Zackary Butenhoff; and two great grandchildren: Aspen and Harvest Tesdahl.
She grew up in Milwaukee, WI, where she attended Lutheran High School and later met her husband of 60 years. Carole attended Valparaiso University and later while raising her three children, received a Bachelor of Art Education from Indiana State University. She served as an officer of the Greensboro, NC Blue Bird Society. Carole taught art, and Sunday school, participated in the various choral groups, and was an avid bird watcher and gardener. She loved color, water, traveling, and camping.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Ecumenical Parish, 40 Lakemount Drive, Moneta, VA ( on Booker T. Washington Hwy, one mile south of the bridge) on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 10:00 AM.
