Carolyn Alexander Eggimann, 77, of Goode, went to be with her Lord & Savior on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was born on July 9, 1937 in Groton Connecticut, a daughter of the late, Clifford Alexander and his wife Catherine.
Raised as an Army Brat, Carolyn lived in many states and in Germany following WWII. However Nashville, Tennessee was always her “home” because her grandmother lived in Belle Monroe and it was the only stable address she knew. Carolyn wanted to teach school from an early age. She was pursuing that goal at Monmouth College in West Long Branch, NJ. She met and married her husband Robert during that time. They have been married for almost 57 years. They both finished their bachelor degrees and Carolyn soon went on to earn a master’s in administration in 1971. She was a classroom teacher for most of her 30 year career, mostly 6th grade. She retired in 1992 and they relocated from NJ to Goode, VA. Carolyn was an active member of several organizations. She was the past Regent, Peaks of Otter Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR); Past Noble Grand, Rebekah Assembly, and Stoney Creek Lodge #103 of Bedford, VA. She was also member of United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC), American Association of University Women (AAUW), and the Goode Rescue Squad Auxillary.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Robert; their daughter, Lynda Eggimann Forney and her husband, Jeff; three grandchildren, Alexa, Robert and Thomas; two nieces, Jeanne Dupree and Shari Miller; and a sister, Catherine Dupree of West Long Branch, NJ. Her husband, Robert and family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Centra Hospice and especially Oakland United Methodist Church for the care and support provided to Carolyn and Robert during this very trying period in their lives.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Carolyn’s memory may be made to, Oakland United Methodist Church, 2465 Goode Station Rd, Goode, VA 24556 or Goode Rescue Squad, 9261 Forest Road, Goode, VA 24556.
