Carolyn Boitnott Kennedy
Carolyn Elizabeth Boitnott Kennedy, 70, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011. Born May 23, 1941 in Portsmouth, VA; she is the daughter of Mildred Wright Boitnott and the late Clarence Stevens Boitnott.
A member of Center Point United Methodist Church, Carolyn was active in the choir, the nominating committee, served as Chair of the administrative board for 5 years; she was also instrumental in organizing various fundraising events for the church. Carolyn was a member of United Methodist Women and a long-time member of Bedford Professional Women. She loved the outdoors and gardening; other hobbies included card making and cake decorating as well as home renovation projects. Carolyn retired from Scott & Bond last May after 39 years of service; she was also part owner of Boitnott Sheet Metal Works.
Carolyn has been a devoted wife for 45 years to Philip Marshall Kennedy. She is also survived by their daughter, Melissa Elizabeth Kennedy; and her mother.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Center Point United Methodist Church in C/O Janet Miles, 1116 Panorama Lane, Bedford, VA 24523.
A Graveside service will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, June 24, 2011 at Longwood Cemetery. Visitation will held from 6:00 until 8:00pm on Thursday, June 23, 2011 Tharp Funeral Home. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, 540-586-3443.
