Carroll Bell Welch, 89, of Madison Heights, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2020 at his residence. He was the husband of Joyce Riley Welch for 65 years.
He was born on October 6, 1930 in South Hampton, Va. to the late Robert P. Welch and the late Florence Walker Welch.
Carroll went to school at Prince Edward public schools then attended at the University of Richmond and then went on to complete his masters at Wake Forest Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, North Carolina. Carroll was a Southern Baptist Minister and a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service.
He ministered at many churches in our area, including New Chapel Baptist, Straightstone Baptist, Inglewood Baptist, Beaverdam Baptist, Elon Baptist, Piney River Baptist, Oak Hill Baptist, Hollywood Baptist. He also was an interim minister at other for a short period throughout his life.
When Carroll first stated he drove a Model “T” back and forth from the parsonage to the church and advanced from that to a Simca then to Chevettes, if you are not automotive enthusiast you would be.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his sons Eugene Carroll Welch and wife, Kim of Elon, John Owen Welch and wife, Kim of Concord, and Jeffrey Lynn Welch of Elon; his grandchildren Brandon Welch and wife, Kristin, Tiffany Welch and husband, Ian Davenport, Stephanie Welch, and Ryan Welch; his great-grandchildren Hunter and Emily; he was the brother to, Clarence Welch, Ewart Welch, Gene Welch and Nancy Carwile; sisters-in-law, Virginia Welch and Shirley Welch; and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights, and from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the family residence.
A celebration of Carroll’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights at 11a.m. with the Reverend Dr. J. Monty Fox
officiating. Interment will be held privately.
