Catherine Ellen Wooldridge Connelly
Catherine Ellen Wooldridge Connelly, age 92, of Westminster-Canterbury, 501 VES Road, Lynchburg, Virginia, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010. She was the wife of the late William Hatcher Connelly.
Born in Lynchburg, Virginia, Sunday, December 16, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Excell Ammon Wooldridge and Carrie Virginia Robertson Wooldridge. She was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and attended UVA Hospital School of Nursing and Lynchburg General Hospital School of Nursing, receiving her R.N. in 1959. She worked in the Lynchburg Hospital Emergency Room and retired in 1982. She volunteered at Lynchburg General Hospital for 20 years after her retirement. She was a member and past president of Fort Hill Women's Club. She was a member of Memorial Methodist Church and served as president of Lynchburg Methodist Youth Fellowship and enjoyed working with young people. She later joined Park View United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her four daughters, Ann Connelly Kennedy Pitka and her husband, Bill, of North Augusta, South Carolina, Ellen Connelly Butterworth and her husband, Dan Lucky, of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Beth Connelly Fauber and her husband, Stuart, of Lynchburg, Carrie Connelly Walker and her husband, Roger, of Faber, her son, William Hatcher Connelly, II and his partner, Brent Douglas Mabry, of Lynchburg, son-in-law, Ed Butterworth of Richmond, 12 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. She is survived by her two sisters, Marian Wooldridge Monaghan and Frances Wooldridge Ballowe. She is predeceased by her sister, Evelyn Wooldridge Meade, and one son-in-law, Steve Kennedy.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive in Lynchburg with Pastor Phil Showers officiating, followed by interment in Spring Hill Cemetery. A reception-visitation will follow at Oakwood Country Club in Lynchburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Greater Lynchburg Community Trust for The Catherine Wooldridge Connelly and William Hatcher Connelly Fund, 101 Paulette Circle, Suite B, Lynchburg, VA 24502; or to the charity of your choice. The Connelly fund serves educational and medical needs in the community.
