Catherine Hudson Campbell

d. September 25, 2018

Catherine Hudson Campbell, 102, of Lynchburg claimed the promise of the Resurrection on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at Westminster Canterbury.  She was born August 5, 1916, in Amherst, a daughter of the late W.H. Hudson and Pearl Allcock. Catherine lived a full life as a wife and mom and a volunteer in many areas.  She was the organist and an active youth leader for Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church (now a discontinued congregation) in Amherst County. She used her considerable baking and sewing skills for various clubs and churches throughout her life. In recent years, Catherine made lap quilts for the Karen Baker Quilt Ministry at Peakland United Methodist Church.

Catherine was active all her life, seldom slowing for anything.  Neighbors would see her out walking or doing things around the house – well into her 90’s. Many times her son would receive phone calls from neighbors driving by asking him if he knew what she was doing! She pushed herself regardless of how she felt and was always ready to “lend a hand.”

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy, all her siblings and just about all of her friends she shared her life with “out in the country.”  She is survived by her only child Linwood and his wife, Tricia of Lynchburg; grandson Matthew and his wife, Brianna of Nashville; granddaughter Katie of NYC and great grandson Jameson (parents Matt and Bri) of Nashville; nephew Kenneth Campbell and his family of Amherst, as well as great nieces and nephews Brenda, Connie, Carolyn, Earnest, David and their families.

The family will receive visitors at Tharp Funeral Home at 220 Breezewood Drive in Lynchburg from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2018. A Memorial Service will be held at Peakland United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018, with a reception to follow at the church immediately after the service. A private family graveside service will be held that morning at Amherst Cemetery.

The family extends a special thank you to the medical professionals and caregivers at Westminster Canterbury who supported Catherine these past few months.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Peakland United Methodist Church Preschool Allen Culberson Scholarship Fund, which provides tuition assistance to children of families who would not otherwise be able to attend preschool.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family. To send condolences, please visit obituaries.tharpfuneralhome.com.
