Catherine Wheeler Keesee

Catherine Wheeler Keesee, 96, died on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at her home in Rustburg.

Born Tuesday, July 18, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Alfred Willottson Wheeler and the late Beulah Callaham Wheeler. She was the wife of the late C. Wilbur Keesee.

Catherine never veered far from where she was born. After retiring from Lynchburg Hoisery Mill after working over 40 years, she spent as much time as possible outdoors, either in her garden or working on the family farm. A true cattle-woman, even in recent years instead of calling a family member you could find her shooing cows back in the fence. Catherine was a life-long member of Bethany United Methodist Church.

Catherine is survived by her son, Wallace G. Keesee (June); a sister, Jewell W. Proehl; a sister-in-law Dorothy T. Keesee, all of Rustburg; grandchildren Donna K. Hobbs (Graham), T. Brett Keesee (Amanda) and Jon W. Keesee (Michelle); great grandchildren Tanya R. Keesee, Matthew B. Keesee, Nichole K. McKenzie (Mike), Megan A. Keesee, Kaylin K. Faris (Cory), Jonathan G. Keesee, Hannah M. Keesee and two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins,

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m, on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Bethany United Methodist Church with the Reverend Steve Barbery officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, and at other times at the home of her son.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, the Rustburg Volunteer Fire Department, or the charity of your choice.

Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory, Lynchburg (434-237-9424) is assisting the family.
