Charlene Doris Megginson

Charlene D. Megginson, 72, passed away early Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Hope Hospice & Palliative Care in Providence, RI, the city where she was born on October 15, 1945.
Charlene was the daughter of Doris Stevens and Carlton Blunt (both deceased), and she was a graduate of Hope High School and The Katherine Gibbs School. Charlene had a long career in the banking industry, starting in Los Angeles where she was a teller at Wells Fargo Bank, and again in Providence where she worked at Industrial National Bank. For 25 years Charlene was an employee of Central Fidelity Bank (now Bank of the James) where she worked in the Mortgage Servicing Department where she received numerous awards for her service and dedication. She began her career there as a secretary and culminated it as an Assistant Vice President overseeing escrow accounts for mortgage lending. After leaving Central Fidelity, Charlene went back to school to become a licensed massage therapist. She worked for three years in Lynchburg, but eventually returned to finance and banking at Scott & Stringfellow. She retired from her position there in October of 2014.
The youngest of five children, Charlene also enjoyed a wide circle of friends. She had an infectious smile and a contagious zest for life, and her greatest joy was her family. For 48 years she was a devoted wife to her late husband, Otis I. Megginson, Jr. Her greatest pride was in being a dedicated and beloved mother to her two daughters, Ms. Felicia Megginson of Providence, RI, and Mrs. Melanie Megginson (Brian Jackson), of Baton Rouge, LA.
Charlene was a faithful and active member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church community for over 20 years. And in recent years, she enjoyed spending time at the Concord Senior Center in Concord, VA.
Charlene is survived by her daughters; sisters Mrs. Maude Monteiro of Glendale, AZ, Mrs. Marcia Brown and Mrs. Ann McGloshen (both of Providence, RI), and her brother Mr. James Blunt of San Diego, CA. Additional survivors include her two four-legged children, Amber and Satin; in-laws; many cousins; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless people her she considered her friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Charlene was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Agnes Johnson and her nephew, Mack West Qualls, Jr.
A graveside celebration of Charlene’s life will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church Cemetery in Lynchburg, VA on Wednesday, July 11, at 11 a.m., with Monsignor J. Kenneth Rush officiating. A private memorial luncheon will follow for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Charlene’s name to: Holy Cross Catholic Church, 710 Clay St., Lynchburg, VA 24504; The Bethany Home of Rhode Island, 111 South Angell Street, Providence, RI 02906 (ATTN: Finance Director); or the American Lung Association.
