Charles A. Wood

Charles A. Wood, 64, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital as a result of injuries from an auto accident. He was the son of the late Charles Ira and Ruby Rice Wood. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Mack E. Wood; brother-in-law, Clarence L. Brookshier; sister-in-law, Barbara S. Wood; niece, Vicky W. Harris and his father-in-law, Paul Waddell.

Charlie was very active and hardworking. He was a kind and good hearted man who loved giving a helping hand to anyone in need. He was loved by all that knew him. He loved going for drives on the Parkway and spending time in the mountains. Most of all Charlie loved spending time with his loving wife, kids, grandkids and friends. He retired from Rubatex as a forklift mechanic with over 30 year of service. He graduated from Liberty High School.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Sheree Waddell Wood; one son, Brian M. Wood; one daughter, Gina W. Bowyer and her husband, Chris; three grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Kody Bowyer, Michelle Bowyer, and Alexis Bowyer. He is also survived by five brothers, Raymond E. Wood and his wife, Carrie, James H. Wood and his wife, Ann, Leonard L. Wood, Maurice H. Wood and his wife, Evyleen and Sherman D. Wood and his wife, Dorothy; four sisters, Mae W. Brookshier, Eleanor W. Overstreet, Frances W. Stanley and her husband, William, Joyce W. Blankenship and her husband, Carl; mother-in-law, Mary Waddell, sisters-in-law, Brenda Sammis and her husband, Tony and Annie Mitchell and her husband, John; also many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of Charlie\"™s life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Phillip Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Peaks Church and Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford.
