Charles Alden Armontrout, 78, of Chesapeake, formally of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, February 28, 2017. He was married to Gloria McFaden Armontrout for 49 years, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Armontrout was born February 23, 1939, in Bedford, Virginia, the son of Emmett Pershing and Lena Conner Armontrout. A sister, Susan Armontrout Martin preceded him in death.
Though a quiet man, he was an accomplished engineer in both the nuclear and aerospace industries. He worked on propulsion systems for the Saturn and Apollo missions. He was a 40+ year employee of Areva working in quality assurance.
He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He always enjoyed his family’s various accomplishments and company.He is survived by his children, Brian Armontrout and Christine Bourgeault, Melissa and Robin Salyer, Cynthia and Chris Turner. His grandchildren James Armontrout and Mona Sergi, Ben Viohl, Zachary and Lauren Viohl, Chris Armontrout, and Nicholas Turner and his great grand-daughter Ava Sergi Armontrout. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Samuel R. Martin.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. on Saturday March 4, 2017, at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg. The service will continue at 1 p.m. with interment at Spring Hill Cemetery following.
