Charles “Buster” Bellford Shaeff Jr., 91, of Lynchburg, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. He was the husband, of 70 years, to Josephine “Phine” Sanderson Shaeff.
Buster was born on July 8, 1925, in Norristown, Penn. the son of the late Charles Bellford Shaeff Sr. and the late Neva Haws Shaeff. He was preceded in death by his three sisters: Eleanor Nina Shaeff Harner, Marjorie Lois Shaeff and Nancy Lee Saylor.
Buster served his country in the US Navy during WWII in the European Theatre. He was involved in the “D Day” invasion, and an active volunteer at the “D-Day” Memorial. He was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was a trustee, an ordained deacon, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. He was also a member of The Brotherhood. Buster and Phine served with the International Missions Board, for three summers, in Hungary, and were involved in other short term missions here and abroad. His memberships included belonging to Liberty Lodge #95, AF&AM, and The National Rifle Association.
In addition to his wife, Buster is survived by his children: Charles B. Shaeff III, Clyne M. Shaeff (Starla), and Glenn C. Shaeff; his grandchildren, Gwenn Shaeff Greer (Charles), Craig Shaeff , and Cooper Shaeff Hubbard (Nick); his great-grandchildren, Ean, Mason, and Josephine Greer, and Harlynn Hubbard.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017, 10 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, with Pastor Louis Beckwith officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Interment will be at Sedalia Baptist Church Cemetery. Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 16.
