Charles Berkley Haynes

Charles \"Berkley\" Haynes, 80, of Bedford, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bedford County on August 16, 1930, a son of the late Herbert Hedley Haynes and Mary Elizabeth Gibbs Haynes.



Berkley was a devoted employee of Massie Brothers Construction for 50 years. He was an avid softball coach and fan. Berkley was a talented musician and loved playing the guitar.

He was a devoted family man and was known as a gentle person to all that knew him.



In addition to his parents, Berkley was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Annie Elizabeth Whorley Haynes and three brothers, Rudolph, Donald, and Hedley Haynes.



Berkley is survived by three daughters, Linda Overstreet and husband, Cliff, of Big Island, Cindy Dooley and husband, Dennis, Angie Kay Haynes and Richard Laughon all of Bedford; three grandchildren, Brandon Overstreet, Bryan Overstreet, Olivia Anne Haynes; two great-grandchildren, Kyli Overstreet, Brinley Overstreet; two sisters, Frances Klinkenberg of Bedford and Betty Seaman and husband, Jim of Bedford, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and ; his two special four-legged friends, King Tut and Princess.



Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Casey officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
