Charles "Chuck" Edward Carter

October 15, 1932 — February 7, 2025

Lynchburg

Charles Edward "Chuck” Carter, of Lynchburg, VA and formerly of Muscatine, IA passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025. Chuck was born on October 15, 1932, in Ames, IA to the late Samuel T. and Lorena M. (Cure) Carter.

He married Carol Graham on September 12, 1953.

His accomplishments were many, but the thing we loved and respected most was the way he cared for others.

Chuck was unofficially the nicest man we ever knew and made the world a better place for everyone he touched, from grain dealers to corporate executives to nurses in the ICU. He had a way of making life better for everyone he met by taking the time to get to know their stories. He listened more than he spoke. When he turned his attention to others with a twinkle in his eye, God touched hearts and showed His love to each person.

In addition to his wife, Chuck is survived by his daughter, Cathy and her husband Scott Thompson; granddaughter, Angela; grandson, David (Rachel) and their daughter Elanor; grandson, Jeremy (Ashleigh); grandson, Jonathan (Tiffany) and their children Skylar, Nate, Joshua and Levi; grandson, Daniel (Kristin) and their children Christian, Mallory, Demetri, Gracie, Janezia, Samuel, Elizabeth and Antony; grandson, Timothy (Hilary) and their children Hayden, Drew and Gabe; grandson Mark and his fiancé Jenny; and granddaughter Stephanie (Daniel) Grafman and their children Lucy and Sean.

He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Connie and Vivian, many precious nieces and nephews and their children, and a slew of true friends who knew him well and loved him much.

Chuck was preceded in death by his brother, William, his son, Douglas, and grandchild, Taraji.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Lynchburg, Virginia.

In lieu of monetary gifts, please give encouragement to those who need a touch from the Lord and take time to hold your loved ones tight; it would mean the world to Chuck.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
