Charles Edward Bigart
Charles Edward Bigart, 88, passed away at his home in Wirtz, on February 26, 2013, after a short illness. Many family members were with him when the time came. A memorial service will be held 2 PM, Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Patmos United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Riley R. Smith, Jr. officiating.
Born July 8, 1924 in Carbondale, PA to Raymond Oliver and Mildred Hoiles Bigart; he was married to Kathryn Louise Bulser Bigart (deceased) for 50 years. That union produced four children; Raymond Oliver Bigart of Nescopeck, PA, Cathy Ileene Bigart Guinet of Terrell, TX, Robert Charles Bigart (deceased), Randall Kevin Bigart of Pewaukee, WI, two daughters-in-law; Jill Bigart of Pewaukee, WI, Yoko Bigart of Nescopeck, PA; a son-in-law, Eugene Charles Guignet, III of Terrell, TX; six grandchildren, Kimberly Anne Earnhart of Point, TX, Charles David Connor, II of Dallas, TX, Natalie Bigart of Australia, Jason and Katie Bigart of West End, NC, Dillon Bigart (deceased), Andrew and Brooksley Bigart of Beverly Hills, CA, and Zachery Bigart of Roanoke, VA. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles throughout the Pennsylvania area. In addition, he leaves behind a brother, Robert H. Bigart of Sun Valley, CA; his wife of 11 years, Frances Tuck of Wirtz; two step-sons, Jerry Tuck and Robie Tuck.
He proudly served in the Air Force during World War II and in the Korean Conflict as a ball torret gun mechanic and later as enlisted pilot. Charlie and Kathryn were well known in the Smith Mountain Lake Area for the past 37 years. Charles was known for his knowledge of the lake. After retiring from Safari Campgrounds, they started a restaurant and marina on the lake. After Kathryn\"™s death, he met and married Frances Tuck. For many years Charles had a large garden and from that garden he shared and sold produce to many people in the area. Charles was also well known for his love of people, his high moral values and standards, and his generosity. He will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. Charles attended Patmos United Methodist Church in Huddleston for many years.
