Charles Edward “Ted” Green, III, 76, died Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg, 30 years after a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. He was born in Lynchburg, VA., son of the late Ann Caldwell Green and Charles E. Green, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jennifer “Jenny” Wilson Green, their three children, Ann Green Ball and her husband Greg of Nags Head, NC, Charles E. “Bo” Green, IV of Newark, DE, William Wilson Green of Princeton, NJ, and three grandchildren, Madison and Ethan Ball and Connor Green.
Ted held degrees from both the University of Virginia, which he entered on a football scholarship, and the Medical College of Virginia where he earned his pharmacy degree. He then joined his father at Green’s Drug Store in Bedford and together they expanded the business into a small regional chain of pharmacies primarily centered in southwest Virginia. In addition, he developed dermatological products for Herald Pharmacal, Inc. of Bedford and served for a time as hospital pharmacist for Bedford Memorial Hospital and the Elks National Home. In 1998, he was awarded the Distinguished Pharmacy Alumnus Award from MCV for outstanding leadership and contributions to the profession of pharmacy.
He was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bedford where he served in several capacities on the Vestry, as a lay reader and as a member of the Health Cabinet which helped guide the parish nurse ministry. An avid UVA sports fan, he seldom missed a home football or basketball game, or an ACC Basketball Tournament. He enjoyed reading, travel, his family and his friendships.
